About Us
For a Dream's Sake was founded by Rosemary Heslin and her family and friends on April 1, 2006. When Rosemary was diagnosed that year with advanced terminal cancer, her family discovered that there were very limited resources in the adult health care system. While Rosemary's medical needs were met, there were few measures in place to ease the burden of a devastating illness. Rosemary and her family were blessed with tremendous support from family and friends and had the resources to ensure that Rosemary was able to live her last months and days as she wished but they recognized that not everyone is as fortunate.
With amazing courage and grace, Rosemary passed away on July 26, 2007 at 61. Although her illness impaired her body, through travel, being with the ones she loved and doing what she loved, Rosemary's quality of life sustained her spirit and inspired all those she touched.
We believe that improving the quality of life for those living with terminal illnesses is critical to good palliative care. For a Dream's Sake, the only organization of its kind in Canada, will strive to help make these difficult days less burdensome for single, divorced or widowed women with terminal cancer by helping them realize final dreams or wishes.
